ADFC welcomes expansion of Tempo 30
The state capital Wiesbaden has today set up the first 40 km/h sign at Sedanplatz. The cycling club ADFC has been working for years to reduce the standard speed in cities.
The ADFC welcomes the fact that implementation is now starting as part of the noise protection concept, thus also reducing the speed difference between wheeled and motorised traffic on some main axes. The ADFC expects that this will significantly reduce tension and stress between traffic participants and improve safety for cyclists. A hurdle in cycling is thus reduced.
Exploiting the potential of cycling
"The current amendment to the Road Traffic Regulations (StVO) improves the possibilities for municipalities to set up cycle lanes and to reduce the maximum permitted speeds. The bicycle combines mobility and quality of life in the city. It is therefore necessary to continue the development of the network of cycle lanes with environmental lanes and cycle lanes, in particular on those roads which do not have a separate cycling infrastructure, nor to reduce the maximum speed by implementing the noise protection concept. However, the current reduction of the maximum permissible speed on many roads in the core city is already a significant improvement for cyclists", says Günni Kerber, 1. Chairman of ADFC Wiesbaden/Rheingau-Taunus.
