ADFC welcomes higher share of cycling

On Friday, February 28, the state capital Wiesbaden published the latest figures on the modal split, i.e. the choice of means of transport. The share of foot and bicycle traffic has increased, while a decline can be observed in public transport and especially in motor vehicle traffic. ADFC Wiesbaden is pleased with the increase in the proportion of bicycle traffic and sees the results as confirmation that the establishment of new, wider cycle paths, bicycle roads and speed limits act as measures. Cycling is more attractive.

By bike to work

Particularly clear is the increase in the proportion of work routes. Since 2013, the share has almost doubled to now 13. %. In addition to the structural improvements by the city of Wiesbaden, the ADFC Wiesbaden observes that more and more employers are promoting cycling. Service bike leasing and improved parking facilities at workplaces
Make it easier to commute to work. Especially on routes from 5 km in length, the share of cycling traffic has more than doubled. This shows the potential of pedelecs. The increasing popularity of pedelecs increases the willingness of cyclists to cycle further distances in everyday life. Topography is no longer an obstacle.

Children's bikes stay in the basement

In contrast, it is noticeable that the proportion of paths to school and daycare remains almost unchanged at a low level.
“The offer for safe and experienced cyclists has greatly improved in Wiesbaden in recent years. It is important that the expansion of cycle paths is further advanced. There is a need for bike paths where parents can let their children ride alone.
and good parking facilities in schools. With the Radstern, the ADFC Wiesbaden shows what a network of safe bicycle roads in the secondary road network can look like. There is therefore great potential for increasing the share of cycling among children and adolescents as an alternative to ‘parent taxis’, says Günni Kerber, Chairman of ADFC Wiesbaden.
ADFC Wiesbaden will host three Kidical Mass (Kinder-Bicycle-Korso) in 2025 and support the school corso.
