World Day of Remembrance

Tempo 30 saves lives: ADFC Recalls Victims of Traffic Accidents

On the occasion of the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims on 15 November, the ADFC Wiesbaden/Rheingau-Taunus is drawing attention to the importance of road safety with an information stand.

On Sunday, 15 November 2026, the annual World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims will take place. On this occasion, the Allgemeine Deutsche Fahrrad-Club (ADFC) Wiesbaden/Rheingau-Taunus commemorates the people who lost their lives in road traffic or were seriously injured. Already on Saturday, 14 November, the association will inform about the topic of traffic safety at an information stand in Wiesbaden's Neugasse.

The current accident statistics of the Wiesbaden Police Directorate show how much more road safety is needed: In 2025, two people died in road accidents and 118 were seriously injured. Among the seriously injured were three children. Almost half of them were on foot or by bike. Particularly worrying is the development of cycling: The number of accidents involving cyclists increased by 17 percent year-on-year to 316.

Behind these numbers are people and their destinies. In sad memory, for example, the fatal accident of a cyclist in September 2025 in Wiesbaden-Schierstein remains. She died after a collision with a turning vehicle. A white ghost wheel set up by the ADFC is reminiscent of the deceased.

The ADFC is therefore committed to Vision Zero: a traffic world in which no one is killed or seriously injured by an accident. An important building block for this is Tempo 30. Lower speeds shorten the stopping distance and significantly reduce the severity of accident consequences. Even today, motorists can contribute to this by voluntarily reducing their speed and paying special attention to people who are on foot or by bike.

With its information stand on 14 November in Neugasse, the ADFC would like to remind the victims of road accidents and raise awareness that road safety concerns everyone. Because every person who loses his life on the road is one too many.
