ADFC Cycle Climate Test 2022 – Wiesbaden in 8th place

Wiesbaden repeatedly achieved a place in the midfield in the nationwide ADFC cycling climate test 2022. In the category of German cities between 200,000 and 500,000 inhabitants, the state capital occupies the 8th place. Place. The grade average has slightly deteriorated from 3.92 to 3.95 compared to the last cycling climate test in 2020 (-0.03). With 1,253 participants, participation was significantly lower.

Wiesbaden with a special challenge

The bike club attributes the worse overall score above all to the closure of the Salzbachtal Bridge. The tense situation of car users leads to a negative "safety feeling" for cyclists (note: 4.7) and more "conflicts with cars" (note: 4.8). "Acceptance as a road user" is also rated more negatively than other major cities (note: 4.4). The two categories ‘Recent bicycle promotion’ (note: 2.7) and ‘open one-way street’ (note: 2.0) were rated particularly positively. Wiesbaden performs particularly well in both categories compared to other cities. Another special feature of Wiesbaden is the suspension of the operation of the municipal rental bike system ESWE MeinRad. This led to a deterioration of 1.3 grades in the bicycle rental category. “By continuously promoting cycling, for example by expanding the exemplary cycle path on Rheinstraße and closing the gap on Klingholzstraße, as well as the annual Stadtradeln campaign, cycling is becoming more and more popular. Unfortunately, this is not reflected in the current results, as it was two years ago", said the 2. Chairman Günni Kerber.

Facts and figures about the ADFC cycling climate test

The ADFC Cycling Climate Test is the largest cycling satisfaction survey in the world. It is held every two years by the cycling club ADFC with the support of the Federal Ministry of Digital and Transport and took place for the tenth time in 2022. Around 245,000 cyclists voted in autumn 2022, 1,114 cities came into the ranking. In order for well-founded results to be achieved, at least 50, 75 or 100 voting results must be available, depending on the size of the city. The survey is open to all, but is aimed specifically at cyclists and is therefore not representative of the population.
