ADFC Wiesbaden welcomes cycling rapids

The ADFC Wiesbaden / Rheingau Taunus calls for rapid progress in planning direct cycling connections and rapid cycling routes from Wiesbaden to Mainz, Frankfurt/Main and the Rheingau Taunus. They mean safe, largely node-free access for cyclists and are a modern means of traffic development. In order to receive financial support from the federal government and the state, they must meet certain requirements. The federal government currently still promotes cycle rapid paths with 75% planning and construction costs.

For a rapid cycle path, 2,000 cyclists per working day must be expected. Previous experience with the improvement of cycle paths and especially rapid cycle paths has shown that the expected usage figures are often exceeded after the expansion. According to estimates by the commissioned planning office, around 3,000 cyclists are expected daily for the Wiesbaden-Mainz high-speed bicycle connection.

The extension is interesting for commuters, but also for touring and recreational cyclists who only use sections. Here, the speed can be increased especially for medium (5-10km) or longer distances. This is an opportunity for Wiesbaden commuters to avoid the traffic jam by cycling and to contribute to a relief of road traffic.

The Wiesbaden City Council had already decided in 2017 to commission a feasibility study for the Wiesbaden-Mainz rapid cycle link, the result of which was only presented now, six years later. The ADFC calls for a much faster pace and a swift start to the planning and construction phase.

ADFC Wiesbaden/Rheingau-Taunus is already a member of the project management group for the feasibility study on the Rüdesheim-Wiesbaden rapid cycling link, where it represents the interests of cyclists. He also offers to actively participate in the projects for the other rapid cycling connections.
