We demand the self-evident

On 22 September, hundreds of children and adults cycled through Wiesbaden as part of the Kidical Mass and demanded a safe cycling infrastructure for children. It went on six car-free kilometers relaxed through the city. Wonderful highlight: On Schiersteiner Straße, the ADFC distributed street chalk, and no child had to be asked: Ruck, zuck, the roadway was colorfully painted and described, with bicycles, with hearts and with fantastic figures of all kinds. And with appeals that the road should finally belong to the children.

On that day, the city organised a children’s and family festival on the Dern’s premises on the occasion of World Children’s Day. And so this time the Kidical Mass ended where it started, on Dern’s premises, where there was ice cream and games, but also where clubs, institutions and initiatives presented their work and offers for children.

At this Kidical Mass, attention was drawn to some colorful posters that children had painted and attached to their bicycles or to those of their parents. One of the posters demanded in large colorful letters simply Safe bike paths for children. And one wonders how we could actually get to the point that we have to demand such a self-evidentness over and over again, loudly and against resistance.

And we continue to demand it in the future. The children, and probably also the parents, are already looking forward to next year when they will be allowed to ‘go in red’ again and when it is said again:
